Not a dumb question.
For kernel boot args: video=[name of connector]:[resolution][M][R][-<bpp>][@<refresh rate>][i][m]
e.g., "video=HDMI-A-1:1920x1080-32 at 60i"
For fbset the param "-laced" set to 1, e.g. fbset -xres 1920 -yres 1080 -laced 1
For Weston the answer doesn't jump to mind :( I have a full afternoon, but I could try tomorrow..
